Heavy rain today, especially in these counties….
A yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Munster and Leinster, to run until about 7pm tonight.
Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford are likely to be worst affected, with an extra 15 to 25 mm of rain.
The rain is expected to be heaviest on high ground.
Meanwhile, more than 200 flood alerts and warnings are in place in England, Scotland and Wales as Storm Eva makes it way across the UK.
Met Éireann forecaster Pat Clarke said it had been a pretty wet Christmas in general.
"It's been quite variable, mild in some areas and quite cold in others. It was mild in the south and east with above-normal temperatures," he said.
"However, it's been a fairly wet Christmas overall (in most parts of the country), following on from a wet month."
Met Éireann has advised that tonight will be cold and frosty, with icy stretches on untreated roads. Some fog will form too and will be dense in places. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 C are expected, but values will rise in the southwest and along the west coast late in the night.
Meanwhile, Clare County Council and Limerick City and County Council have received confirmation from the ESB of its decision to increase the flow rate at Parteen Weir by 35 cubic metres of water per second (cumecs) from 335 cumecs to 370 cumecs.
The Councils said that water levels have risen on Lough Derg, located on the lower River Shannon.
The short term outlook is for further heavy rainfall over the weekend and during the early days of next week.
