7 Signs You’re Ready For Winter To Come

Ah summer. It’s the time where we can peacefully nap in the afternoon sun and head outdoors without wearing multiple jumpers and a heavy coat.

But, it’s also the season of energy-sapping heat, irritating insects and nights so unbearably warm you struggle to sleep.

For those who love a cold snap, we have some good news for you; British Summer Time (BST) officially ends on Sunday 25 October, when the clocks go back, meaning winter is coming soon.

Until then, here are some signs that you’re *so* not a summer person.

1. You’re excited to wear layers

Winter weather might not be the most pleasant, but you love getting layered up to do battle against the elements in snuggly scarves, coats and boots. After a hot summer of feeling too exposed in shorts and tiny tops, you’re looking forward to retreating back into your style comfort zone. Come at us, jumpers.

2. You’ve already ditched your razor

One of the most annoying things about summer is the relentless beauty upkeep. It almost feels like you have a part-time job as a beautician with all the exfoliating, shaving and moisturising you have to do. Oh and then there’s fake tanning, painting your toenails and filing away the unsightly hard skin from your feet.

We can’t wait for the temperature to drop so we can lazily hide our naturally fuzzy legs under a pair of 60 denier tights and not have to worry about it anymore.

3. You’re drooling over the idea of eating comfort foods

Sure, summer salads are great and everything, but nothing beats a piping hot bowl of mac and cheese, a hearty casserole or a simple thermos of soup. Winter is the time to curl up and tuck into tasty foods that properly warm you up.

4. You’re looking forward to seeing the sunrise

Everyone moans about the dark mornings in winter – but leaving the house when it’s still pitch-black outside gives you the chance to catch some epic sunrises. We’ll take cool and crisp honey-coloured skies over an unbearably hot summer’s morning any day of the week.

5. You actually really like nights in

When lockdown began and your social life was put on hold, you vowed never to spend another night in when you were able to go out. But if you’re really honest with yourself, you still love a good, lazy night in. Cold weather is a great excuse to curl up and just watch a boxset.

6. You never want to go for a park picnic again

This summer’s main social activity was picnicking with friends in your local park. But now it’s getting too cold for that and you’re secretly glad. There are only so many warm cans of gin in a tin that one person can stomach.

7. You can’t wait for Christmas

Ah Christmas. There’s no denying that it’s a special time of year, with presents, food, all the twinkling lights, hopefully seeing family and, if you’re lucky, a decent break from work.

You can keep your too hot car seats, swarms of wasps and putrid hot city smells, we’re super psyched about winter. Bring on the snow.
