The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) has been confirmed as the charity sponsor of the first 'Pups in the Park' festival, taking place in the surroundings of Malahide Castle later this month.

The event, in association with Leader Dog Food, will give owners the chance to hear from leading animal experts, including TV vet Pete Wedderburn, or take part in competitions, such as Dogsercise and Canine Pilates.

Rob Walsh, the Dogfather, will lead classes offering tips and tricks to dog-owners, while the Petinsurance.ie Chin-Wag stage will feature a series of expert talks on canine care.

The festival will also host over 30 vendors, showcasing dog accessories, food, apparel, toys and more.

"We are delighted to be the official charity partner of the inaugural ‘Pups in the Park’, which is set to be a really fun and unique day out for dogs and owners alike," Suzanne McGovern from the DSPCA said.

"Pets are family and this event is a lovely way to spoil them a little and have some fun.

"The support from the festival is hugely welcomed and will help the charity continue to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare," she added.

Speaking at the launch, model Rosanna Davison urged the public to get behind the event to raise vital funds for the DSPCA.

"A unique event, such as 'Pups in the Park' is a really wonderful opportunity for dog lovers and their pooches to create memories and have a really great day out."

The festival will take place on April 30th and May 1st, with further information and tickets available on the 'Pups in the Park' website, where a donation of €2 can also be made to the DSPCA when purchasing a ticket.
