The Princess of Wales has a highly sought-after wardrobe.
Known for block colours and classic silhouettes that reflect her chic style, she’s become a style icon.
Irish designers regularly feature in her wardrobe – whether it’s for clothes, accessories or jewellery.
Here are a few of the times Kate has championed fashion from the Emerald Isle…
1. Dubarry of Ireland
In March 2020, the Prince and Princess of Wales went on their first official royal tour of Ireland.
During the busy trip, Kate visited the Teagasc Research Farm in Carlow, and wore the Friel Utility Jacket in Olive from Dubarry of Ireland. Underneath was a green gingham shirt, black skinny jeans and knee-high Penelope Chilvers tassel boots.
Established in County Galway in 1937, Dubarry originally focused on footwear and was set up to provide employment for people in the small town of Ballinasloe. It’s since grown into a premium clothing and footwear brand, known particularly for outdoor jackets – like the one Kate modelled.
2. Philip Treacy
Born in County Galway, Philip Treacy is known as the royal family’s go-to milliner – and Kate has worn his creations multiple times.
She donned a black velvet headpiece by the Irish designer with a dramatic bow motif for the 2020 Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London, paired with an Alexander McQueen coat with intricate shoulder detailing.
Clearly a favourite, the Princess of Wales wore another Treacy design earlier this year at the annual Order of the Garter Service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The woven black and white headpiece was accented with black and white polka dot flowers, matching her midi-length dress by Alessandra Rich.
Keeping to the monochromatic theme, she paired the outfit with a white clutch bag and white court heels with a black toe cap.
Treacy – who is based in London – is known for his elaborate style, and recently designed a pink feathered headpiece for Beyonce on her Renaissance tour. One of his most famous designs was the headpiece later dubbed the ‘pretzel hat’, worn by Princess Beatrice to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ 2011 wedding.
3. All The Falling Stars
Kate has also been spotted wearing bespoke jewellery by Galway-based Aisling O’Brien’s label All The Falling Stars, which specialises in minimalist gold and silver styles.
In 2020 the Princess of Wales visited Battersea Park in London to meet with mothers and learn about how they had been helping each other during the pandemic.
She kept her look casual and relaxed: a white scoop-neck T-shirt and pink tailored trousers, with strings of delicate chains around her neck.
“I made a necklace with three gold discs and put an initial on each: G for George, C for Charlotte and L for Louis. That retails at €139 now with the personalisation,” O’Brien told RSVP Live.
Even though O’Brien had sent Kate the personalised necklace, she “never expected to see her wearing the jewellery”, she said.
The Kate effect was out in full force, and O’Brien added: “I was completely unprepared for the reaction which followed too, and my website crashed from all of the interest.”
