A Co Donegal textile firm has announced plans to lay off 180 workers for the month of December because of a global downturn in the market for its goods.

Comerama said the temporary lay-offs in Gweedore are part of a review of its worldwide operation.

SIPTU spokesman Declan Ferry said the move is not surprising because the workers can see that stock levels are high and that the company needs to reduce those stocks.

He also said the Comerama staff are extremely worried about the future of their jobs.
