As its name suggests, ‘Aisling’ at Ardagh, Loreto Road, Killarney, is the stuff dreams are made of and so much more, writes Eve Kelliher.

You know that dream where you suddenly discover a new room you didn’t know existed in your house? The same sense of excitement and surprise fills me when I approach the driveway to “Aisling” at Ardagh, Loreto Road, Killarney.

Turns out it will be a feeling that will recur — just like that dream tends to do for those who experience it — as I explore the grounds and the residence itself.

You see, as children, my classmates and I hurtled past this very site every day of our primary school careers on a minibus that whisked us from doorsteps to desks. But never in my wildest imagination did I realise just what a mesmerising view lay beyond those trees.

If by some miracle of space-time continuum Daphne du Maurier had ever had the chance to visit this residence, I’m quite sure the name “Aisling” would supplant “Manderley” in literature lovers’ lexicons.

As you survey all you see from this residence — located on a professionally landscaped and extremely private 2.5 acre site — you literally have some of the best views Kerry has to offer at your feet.

Estate agent Michael Coghlan of agent Sherry FitzGerald Coghlan, Killarney, agrees.

"I don’t think you could get this close to town and have such a wonderful view of the Killarney Valley area,” he says.

The panoramic south-facing vista takes in Lough Leane and the McGillycuddy Reeks as well as the pinnacle of Torc — it even offers a glimpse of Cromane and the Dingle Mountains

“Aisling” nestles in an exclusive electronically gated community development of just ten private homes, on Loreto Road, which in turn is just off the tourism thoroughfare of Muckross Road.

The property is only 3km from Killarney town, and it is also extremely convenient to Killarney National Park (including Muckross House), with Ireland’s National Event Centre just down the road and a variety of golf clubs and beaches within easy driving distance, as is Kerry Airport.

The sale presents a very rare opportunity to purchase an architect-designed “walk-in” home, adds Mr Coghlan. Indeed, it appears no detail has been overlooked — the meticulously maintained gardens even feature an

appealing variety of native deciduous trees, including oak, silver birch and ash.

The four-bedroomed family residence has been finished to “executive standards”, says Mr Coghlan.

The entrance hall is double-ceiling height, with French doors leading to the kitchen/living room.

Extremely tempting for anyone who enjoys hosting home-cooked feasts, the latter space features Scavolini cherrywood kitchen units and centre island, with a sink and black granite worktop, as well as an American fridge/freezer, oven and microwave.

The vaulted ceilings in the kitchen are finished with feature Kingpin trussed roof beams.

A patio door leads to a granite patio area, while the utility room includes a tiled floor as well as built-ion walnut storage units.

The property also offers a store room (4.87m by 3.30m) and spacious double garage.

The reception rooms and master bedroom, complete with balcony, make the most of the magical spread of scenery.

The light-filled living room boasts an American hardwood floor and marble and stone open fireplace. Look up and you’ll

appreciate the coved decorative plaster ceiling. French doors lead from here to the hall as well as to the kitchen/dining area. Designer wallpaper adorns the walls.

Next on to the main living room/formal dining room. This elegantly finished 8.56m by 6.50m space includes a light mahogany hardwood floor, coved ceilings, and cream sandstone fireplace. French doors allow access to a patio.

A few steps up to the first floor, and you’re making your way to two generous-sized bedrooms, both with oak floors and extremely spacious walk-in wardrobes, all fully fitted with shelving and hanging rails. The bedrooms also include en-suites with showers.

Next up is the guest bedroom, again with a solid oak floor and an extensive walk-in wardrobe — and those breathtaking lake/mountain views. This room also comes with an en-suite, complete with ladies and gents’ washbasins and fully tiled walls and floors.

Now for the fourth or master bedroom, which has dimensions of 5.3m by 5m. A French door leads from this oak-floored room to a balcony — I don’t care what the season, even in plummeting temperatures I’d find it hard to resist wrapping up and relaxing out there, sipping a coffee while drinking in the scenery.

The luxurious en-suite has a marble floor and walls and is a sizeable 3m by 1m, with plenty of room for the Jacuzzi bath, shower, WC and washbasin.

But I’m not done just yet! I spy another door in the master bedroom. Opening it summons up that shock of pleasure that accompanies that “extra-room” dream again. Because, beyond the innocuous-looking door is a dressing room/walk-in wardrobe on not one but two levels.

I know we’re supposed to be all about Marie Kondo-inspired minimalism these days, but if you ask me, any fashionista worth his or her salt would find it impossible to say no to the scope offered here for endless and enjoyable wardrobe curation.

VERDICT: The stuff dreams are made of.
