Polish lab confirms first bird flu cases

Two swans in Poland have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of bird flu, the first cases to be found in the country.

Two swans in Poland have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of bird flu, the first cases to be found in the country.

“Both birds had the H5N1 strain of bird flu,” said Tadeusz Wijaszka, director of the National Veterinary Research Institute in Pulawy, where the tests were conducted.

Samples were being sent to Britain for further tests.
