SWAT stars Colin Farrell as hotshot cop Jim Street who is demoted to the ranks after a hostage gets shot during a bank raid.
Rather than quit the force he takes a job in the supply room in the hope of getting another shot at the big time.
His chance comes sooner than he expected when Sergeant Hondo (Samuel L Jackson) is brought in to get the ailing SWAT team back on track.
He thinks Street can still make the grade, and, despite objections from the unit’s captain, he gets the go ahead to form his dream team.
There can’t be much action if the good guys don’t have anyone to fight, so along comes French terrorist Alex Mintel (Olivier Martinez).
Despite being one of the world’s deadliest killers, he manages to get himself arrested for having a broken light on his car.
The Americans finally cop on to who he really is, and he’s forced to offer a reward of $100m to anyone who breaks him out of prison.
Needless to say Street and co are sent to deliver Montel, and they have their hands full as every terrorist is out to claim the cash.
SWAT doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is just as well as the plot is full of holes.
It’s a straightforward hour and a half of shoot ’em up, blow ’em up testosterone-charged action. It’s perfect for a lads’ night in.
