The Dail will debate a motion calling on Liam Lawlor to resign later today.

The Dail will debate a motion calling on Liam Lawlor to resign later today.

Yesterday, all the main parties reached agreement on the text of the motion, which is expected to be passed unanimously.

If so, it will be the first time in Irish history that a TD has faced unanimous calls to resign.

Mr Lawlor will not be present at today’s debate. He is serving 28 days in prison for failing to cooperate with the Flood Tribunal.

The Dail cannot force the independent deputy to resign.
