SPOILER: Hollyoaks actress axed from show as of ‘immediate effect’

Stephanie Davis has had her Hollyoaks contract "terminated".

The 22-year-old actress, who has played Sinead O'Conner since she was 16, has received the axe from the Channel 4 soap "with immediate effect" under mysterious circumstances.

It's not yet clear what prompted the decision to cancel the star's contract, although a spokesperson for the show confirmed the news, saying: "Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming 'Hollyoaks'. her contract has been terminated with immediate effect."

Stephanie rose to fame while appearing in BBC talent search show 'Over the Rainbow' but was snapped up by the soap a short while after she left the competition, having previously had minor roles in 'Holby City' and 'Doctors'.

The abrupt firing comes just months after she revealed she had signed up for another year on the show, saying she was "really happy" to still be on the programme.

She said at the time: "I'm really happy. I've been in the show since I was 16 and I'm 22 now. I've kind of grown up here, which has been mental."

Stephanie's character was introduced to the show in 2010 as part of the O'Connor family, with Ross Adams recently being cast as Sinead's cousin.
