Armagh's footballers received a stunning welcome at their official homecoming after winning the All-Ireland final.

Thousands joined in the celebrations at the Athletic Grounds on Monday evening, to celebrate Armagh's victory over Galway.

It marks Armagh's second All-Ireland senior football title, with the last success in 2002.

There were around 15,000 free tickets available for the event, and they were snapped up in minutes, with thousands more supporters gathering outside the stadium.

Speaking at the Athletic Grounds, Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney said: ""They said we couldn't win tight games and we won tight games. Everybody said they wouldn't win the All-Ireland, and we won the All-Ireland."

Armagh star Niall Grimley dedicated the victory to his family, who lost his brother and sister-in-law to a car crash in November.

The midfielder said loss throughout the squad has made them stick together.

"The reaction at full-time... the relief and pain we've suffered as a family and as a team.

"And not only me, there are other lads on the team, the O'Neills lost their uncle last week, and there are other fellas on the team who are suffering... and I'm just aware of it now."
