Republic of Ireland striker Aaron Connolly deleted his Twitter account after receiving abuse following Brighton's 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday night.
Connolly, 21, missed a chance towards the end of the game and the Athletic report that he deleted his account after receiving a huge amount of online abuse.
The majority of the abuse reportedly came from gamblers who had bet money on the outcome of the match.
The report adds that Connolly received a call from a member of Brighton's staff to check on him following the abuse.
The Galway native has scored twice this season and recently returned from injury.
Brighton boss Graham Potter recently offered Connolly his support.
Speaking at a press conference, Potter said: “He has got some really good attributes, he is exciting and we believe in him but at the same time he is young and learning to be a Premier League player, a Premier League goalscorer.
“He has been a little bit unlucky with injuries and one or two things but that is part of life as a footballer.”
