Irish international, Louise Quinn has been named as the 2019 FAI Senior Women’s International Player of the Year.

The Wicklow woman, who confirmed her move to Italian club Fiorentina earlier this month, was selected ahead of Irish teammates Katie McCabe and Denise O’Sullivan.

This is the second time the centre-back has received the award, having previously won it 2013.

Speaking to FAI TV, Quinn said she was surprised to get the nod.

“It’s just incredible. I think we’ve had such an incredible year with such changes and the players coming up and stepping up to the plate, so to get the award is something truly special.”

The Republic of Ireland will continue their campaign to qualify for their first major international tournament next month, facing Germany away on September 19th.

The Irish women are unbeaten in their run to qualify for the UEFA Women’s European Championships.

“This squad is prepared to do whatever it takes to get to our Euros.

“We know that there is still massive room for improvement. In games, we’re definitely creating more chances but now is the time to start putting them away quicker. It’s now about being clinical with those really good chances that we are creating,” said Quinn.
