Cork hurlers to strike

The Cork senior hurling panel have withdrawn their services with immediate effect.

This amounts to a "players' strike", although the players refuse to use that term.

Players Fergal Ryan, Donal Og Cusack, Diarmaid O'Sullivan, Alan Browne, Joe Deane, Sean Og O hAilpin and Mark Landers announced the decision on behalf of the 30-strong panel from 2002.

The players said in a statement the decision was made in an on-going dispute over facilities and conditions.

"This decision has been made after a terrible year for Cork hurling and after much deliberation and torment. We feel that given the situation in which we find ourselves, we are left with no alternatives, " said Jo Deane, reading from the statement.
