Darts: Lowe edged out in thriller
Peter Manley punched the air following his epic 6-5 win over darts legend John Lowe in the second round of the Skol World Championship in Purfleet last night.
Cumbria-based Manley made a confident start and won the first set by three legs to two.
But Lowe has won world titles in three different decades and he used all his experience to edge the second 3-2.
With the majority of the Circus Tavern crowd chanting his name, Lowe produced some high-quality darts in the third set to move ahead for the first time.
And the Chesterfield veteran, thanks to some impressive finishing, took the fourth set by three legs to two.
The tension was building but Manley held his nerve to cut the deficit to one set before coming from behind to win the sixth 3-2 and level the score.
Lowe also won the opening two legs of the next set before Manley clawed his way back to set up a decider. However, the 56-year-old nailed double four to take the lead yet again.
Both players shared the next two sets before Manley won the 10th set to level at 5-5 and take it to a thrilling decider.
But the 39-year-old had gained the initiative and he blitzed the last set 3-0 for a memorable victory.
