Rugby

Ireland have secured a bonus-point win over Wales in the opening game of the Six Nations.

The game at the Aviva ended 29-7, with tries from Bundee Aki, Andrew Conway and Gary Ringrose. Ireland debutant Mack Hansen was named Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, in the second fixture of the day, Scotland have beaten England 20-17 at Murrayfield, with the Scots retaining the Calcutta Cup for the first time in 38 years.

GAA

In the first day of the National Hurling League Derry beat Sligo 2-14 to 1-14 at Celtic Park in Division 2B in the opening fixture, while Armagh got a one-point win over Louth at the Athletic Grounds, ending 2-16 to 3-12 in Division 3A. Meanwhile, Cavan were less fortunate in Ederney, going down 1-20 to 0-13 against Fermanagh in Division 3B.

In Division 1A, Clare suffered defeat at the hands of Cork, ending 2-30 to 2-21 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, while Tipperary beat Laois 1-14 to 0-21 at O'Moore Park in Division 1B.

In the football, Limerick bettered Antrim at Corrigan Park in Division 3, 0-11 to 2-9, while Galway got a win away to in Division 2, finishing 0-9 to 1-12 at Páirc Esler.

The second match in Páirc Uí Chaoimh's double-header, Cork and Clare's footballers drew 1-13 apiece in their Division 2 meeting, while the big Division 1 clash of the evening ended in a 1-15 to 0-11 victory for Kerry over Dublin at Austin Stack Park.

Soccer

Kidderminster came within a whisker of pulling off one of the all-time FA Cup shocks when they went out 2-1 after extra-time at home to West Ham in the fourth-round. West Ham needed a last gasp Declan Rice equaliser just to reach extra-time, but the Hammers then found a winner in the dying moments of the game.

Meanwhile, Chelsea also needed extra-time to see off Plymouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere, Everton saw off Brentford 3-1, Manchester City had a 4-1 win over Fulham, Norwich got a 1-0 win on the road against Wolves, while it ended all square between Southampton and Coventry, finishing 1-1.

Burnley and Watford ended 0-0 in the only Premier League game of the day.

Golf

Seamus Power leads on day three of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The Waterford man is at 17-under-par in the early stages of his round.

Leona Maguire is one shot off the lead in the final round of the Drive On Championship on the LPGA Tour.

Racing

The Gordon-Elliott-trained Conflated scored an 18/1 upset win in the Irish Gold Cup on the first day of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown.

Davy Russell was aboard the winner with Minella Indo in second and Janidil third.

Minella Cocooner gave trainer Willie Mullins a flying start to the weekend.

The 11/1 shot registered a two-and-three-quarter lengths victory in the Grade One Novice Hurdle under Danny Mullins.

Mullins also took the Arkle Chase with 5/2 shot Blue Lord ridden by Paul Townend.
