Dubliner O'Brien previously managed Westmeath for two years and stepped down following their Joe McDonagh Cup success in 2021.

He was in charge of the Dublin team that reached the Leinster under-20 hurling final this summer.

It comes as the Westmeath Senior Hurling final was postponed midway through the first half due to inclement weather.

Earlier, Naas were crowned Kildare Senior Football champions with a 1-7 to 1-6 win over Celbridge.
