Two Shamrock Rovers players have tested positive for coronavirus, raising questions over their scheduled televised clash with Derry City tomorrow night.

The club has confirmed that Republic of Ireland international Jack Byrne has tested positive for Covid-19 along with teammate Aaron Greene.

Rovers said "several other players within the squad will follow a period of isolation as close contacts".

Byrne tested positive while on international duty and the midfielder is now self-isolating in Dublin.

After a positive test on Sunday, Byrne did not travel to Finland for last night's game, which Ireland lost 1-0.

Rovers could win the League of Ireland Premier Division with a victory against Derry on Friday, the club said "the matter is now with the competitions department to review remaining fixtures".

The game is due to be aired live on RTÉ at 7.45pm.
