He suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Limerick University Hospital. He passed away in the intensive care unit on Sunday.

Locals described the father of four as a gentleman and 'a huge GAA enthusiast and supporter of Thurles Sarsfields GAA club’’.

Despite being a native of Crosspatrick in County Kilkenny he had been an active club member with the famous County Tipperary Club and regularly attended their games.

He was also a member of Thurles Golf Clubs and was active in political circles with Fianna Fáil.  He was also known to many businesses as he ran a business selling fire extinguishers for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife Ursula, sons Michael, Clive and Niall, daughter Chiara and extended family.

Local TD in Thurles and family friend Jackie Cahill (FF) "extended his sincere sympathy to the Hanrahan family at this very sad time."

Gardaí in Thurles said they are still keen to speak with witnesses or anyone who has footage of the area from that day.
