Britain's Queen Elizabeth has accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days and has cancelled a planned visit to Northern Ireland, Buckingham Palace said on Wednesday.
“The queen has reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days,” the palace said.
“Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow.”
The queen (95) sent her “warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland, and looks forward to visiting in the future,” the palace said.
She had been due to attend a church service in Armagh on Thursday marking the centenary of partition and Northern Ireland’s foundation.
British prime minister Boris Johnson will attend the commemorative service organised by Ireland’s five main Christian churches.
Last month, President Michael D Higgins declined an invitation from the Church Leaders Group as he believed the title was politicised and it would not be appropriate for him to attend.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney and the chief whip, Jack Chambers, will represent the Government.
