AIB to help build 5,000 new homes in Dublin

There has been a cautious welcome to plans by AIB to help build 5,000 new homes in Dublin.

AIB is in talks with developers and the City Council to finance the building of houses and apartments.

Head of the Construction Industry Federation Tom Parlon says it is good news, but AIB should be doing this anyway.

"That's the normal sort of bread and butter business that AIB should be doing and it shouldn't be the cause of a big headline," he said.

"We only built about 1,340… houses last year in the greater Dublin area - different reports say that we need close to 9,000 house."
