US stocks are creeping further into record territory after a quiet day of trading.

US stocks close on record highs

US stocks are creeping further into record territory after a quiet day of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed at all-time highs today.

The Dow added 26 points, or 0.1%, to 18,298. The S&P 500 rose up six points, or 0.3%, to 2,129.

The Nasdaq composite gained 30 points, or 0.6%, to 5,078, but did not reach a record.

Several stocks moved on news of acquisitions.

Ann, the parent company of Ann Taylor and Loft, jumped 20% after it agreed to be acquired by Ascena Retail Group.

Endo International fell 5% after it agreed to buy privately held Par Pharmaceutical for eight billion US dollars.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.23%.
