The world's largest aquatic insect was discovered in China and it's terrifying

Say hello to the newest star of your nightmares - the world's largest aquatic insect.

According to the Insect Museum of West China, locals in a village in China's Sichuan province handed over "weird insects that resemble giant dragonflies with long teeth" earlier this month.

Researchers at the museum identified the insects as an unusually large Dobsonfly.

As the museum helpfully points out, the nightmarish creatures are large enough to cover the face of a human adult. The largest one measured 21 centimetres (8.27 inches) when its wings were open.

Absolutely terrifying. Those pincers…

However their presence is apparently a good sign as they are attracted to clean water. So those villagers might have flying bugs the size of their face flying around but at least their water is fresh!

And you didn't have enough of giant creepy--crawlies today, here's the Largest Insect in the World.

The holder of that title is the Giant Weta, a huge cricket-like insect that can be seen here EATING A CARROT.

The Weta is so large it weighs the same as three mice and is larger than some birds.

Luckily, it only lives on one small island in New Zealand - Little Barrier Island. Remind us to never go there.

Actually lets just stay indoors all the time - the world is a horrible, giant insect-filled place.
