Cork counts cost of widespread flooding

The south that bore the brunt of last night's storm, with flood waters in Cork city centre climbing to two feet in places.
In Kinsale, the road outside the Bulman pub was almost completely destroyed as waves battered the harbour wall by the pier.
The “Funkytown” kayak/adventure centre in Fountainstown, Co Cork, got swept out to sea overnight.


“Unfortunately due to Insane Stormage Funkytown has relocated to a Floating Adventure Centre,” the company said on its Facebook page.
This woman - who lives near Wansforde Quay in Cork - spent the night cleaning her home.
"I move everything off the ground floor; now obviously couches and tables and chairs you can't do anything with," she said.
"So now it's a case of disinfecting because the water is so dirty - get a dehumidifier and try to clean it out.
"I am a clean freak anyway so I've put probably 10 bottles of bleach down at the moment.
"And..it's a case of now just scrubbing it, cleaning it up."
ESB crews are battling weather conditions to restore power to around 6,000 homes and businesses nationwide.

Those in the south are still worst-affected, but ESB is warning of blackspots in Castlebar, Co. Mayo and in parts of Cavan.
Met Éireann says a yellow weather warning remains in place for much of the country, with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour and heavy rain expected today.

Meanwhile AA Roadwatch says conditions on the roads are improving, but there is still a lot of debris on roads in Carlow, Kildare, Tipperary.
