A member of the gardaí is in hospital today after he staged a rescue attempt in the River Liffey in Dublin city centre.

A member of the gardaí is in hospital today after he staged a rescue attempt in the River Liffey in Dublin city centre.

The alarm was raised just before 9am this morning when a man went into the water at Victoria Quay.

The Garda, who is stationed at Kevin Street, went into the water after responding to the call.

He is now in a stable condition at St James' Hospital - the condition of the first man is not yet known.
