LGBT groups protest in Dublin for marriage equality
Gay and lesbian equality groups have taken to the streets of Dublin today, demanding that the Government enacts civil marriage legislation.
While Civil Partnership currently exists for same-sex couples, the LGBT group Noise said key issues, such as adoption and guardianship rights, are not addressed by the law.
The focus of the march today was on Russia, where there have been violent clashes between police and protesters over new "anti-gay" legislation.
Shauna Watson, from Wexford, said marriage is a right which everyone should enjoy.
The spokesperson for Noise, Max Kryzanowski, said the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore needs to be more vocal on the laws in Russia.
Mr Kryzanowski said: "If he has taken a stand, it hasn't been very well publicised and he will find an enormous body of public support if he cares to speak out on this issue and if he cares to use Ireland's considerable clout and our improving record on LGBT equality in the country."
