Murder inquiry launched into Dublin shooting

Gardaí have officially began a murder investigation following the shooting a 27 year-old man in Dublin.

The father of three from the south inner city, who was known to Gardaí, was shot dead in Kilmainham this morning.

A car, believed to have been used by the gunman, was found on fire in nearby Rialto shortly afterwards. Gardaí are tonight appealing for information following the capital's latest gangland style murder.

The 27 year-old victim was shot in the chest along the red Luas line beside the Grand Canal at the junction of Davitt Road and Suir Road in Kilmainham.

The gunman is described as being around 6 foot tall and wearing a sky blue hoodie with white shoulders.

Garda spokesperson Superintendent David Taylor has said two Luas trams were passing at the time of the shooting at around 10.30am.

A metallic grey lilac Opel Astra car was found on fire a short distance away at Rialto Court. A firearm discovered in the car is undergoing tests.
