Verwoerd book put on hold following court hearing

The publishers of an autobiography by the late Gerry Ryan's partner have agreed to stop the book going on sale for at least two weeks.

Melanie Verwoerd's memoirs 'When We Dance' hit the shelves this morning but a court action from a friend of the DJ, who claims he has been defamed by the book, means it has now been pulled.

Music promoter Dave Kavanagh was one of the last people to see Gerry Ryan alive before he died from heart failure, most likely caused by cocaine and alcohol.

The day before his death the two friends met for drinks in The Four Seasons hotel in Ballsbridge and later went on for dinner.

At an urgent sitting at 9am today, the High Court was told the book was in Easons last night and was probably on sale this morning.

Lawyers for Melanie Verwoerd and publishers Liberties Press said they were only informed of the legal action yesterday evening and needed more time to put together their case.

The action has been put back until October 24 and in the meantime the publishers have agreed to an order prohibiting publication, sale or distribution of the book.
