KLM considers £19m compensation claim after terror attacks

KLM is considering seeking up to £19m compensation for damages linked to the US terror attacks.

KLM is considering seeking up to £19m compensation for damages linked to the US terror attacks.

The airline says it made significant losses in the three days after the attacks, when US airspace was closed. Any claim for compensation would be met by the Dutch Government.

The European Commission says it backs national aid for airlines' losses incurred while the US was out of bounds.

KLM spokesman Bart Koster says the company lost between £15.7m and almost £19m in that period.

It will decide whether to file the claim with the Dutch Government following the EU transport council meeting planned for today and tomorrow.

Mr Koster says: "We'll decide about eventual claims after the Dutch Government makes an announcement about possible support."
