Fulham have signed former France centre-back Philippe Christanval on a three-year deal.
Out-of-contract Christanval, who spent two weeks on trial at Arsenal over the summer, arrives on a free and could be available for Saturday’s Barclays Premiership clash at Newcastle.
The 27-year-old spent four seasons at Monaco before enjoying spells at Barcelona and Marseille and has six caps for France.
“I’m happy to join Fulham and to play in the Premier League where each match is played at an exciting high tempo,” he said.
“There is a nice atmosphere around the training ground and I’m looking forward to working with all of the players and being a big part of Fulham’s future campaigns.”
Fulham have lacked cover at centre-back but Christanval’s arrival will bolster an area of the team which boss Chris Coleman admits was in need of strengthening.
“I’m glad that we have been able to add another new face to the squad to give us the strength in depth that I felt we have been lacking,” he said.
“Philippe’s credentials speak for themselves and I’ve no doubt that he will prove to be a model professional and a great addition to the squad.
“We have a great spirit here and a fantastic group of guys, and I’ve no doubt that if we work hard together, that we can achieve things.”
