The wife of an Algerian pilot, believed to have trained some of the hijackers of the September 11 attacks in the USA, insists he is innocent.

Lofti Raissi,27, who lives near Heathrow airport, was arrested on September 21 under the Terrorism Act and is being held in a top security London prison.

The FBI believe he was a lead instructor for four of the pilots responsible for the hijackings, including the man who crashed the plane into the Pentagon.

He is also accused of making a false statement on a US Federal Aviation Authority application and failing to disclose that he had surgery and had been to a health professional in the last three years.

After being held for a week he was re-arrested on an international warrant at the request of the US.

Mrs Raissi vehemently denies that her husband could have been behind the attacks and claims that their lives have been destroyed since the arrest of her husband.

When asked if she had ever met any of the hijackers on a visit to America she said she had never met them.

Mr. Raissi is being held in custody and is due to appear in court again on November 27.
