Warburton out of Scotland game

Wales captain Sam Warburton was a late withdrawal from their RBS 6 Nations clash with Scotland at the Millennium Stadium today.

The flanker had suffered a dead leg in last weekend’s victory over Ireland in Dublin, but was named in Warren Gatland’s starting line-up to face the Scots.

However, the Cardiff Blues back-rower was ruled out after failing a late fitness test with lock Ryan Jones taking over the captaincy.

Aaron Shingler, whose brother Steven has been at the heart of an eligibility row after being named in Scotland’s Six Nations squad, came into the back row to win his first cap as Warburton’s replacement at openside flanker.

Wales had prop Gethin Jenkins back in their front row with flanker Dan Lydiate coming into the back row as Jones moved to the second to replace the suspended Bradley Davies.

Try-shy Scotland handed Greig Laidlaw a first start at fly-half in the absence of the retired Dan Parks, while prop Geoff Cross replaced Euan Murray in the front row.
