Gardai have named two of the men killed in a road accident in Co Kildare overnight.

23-year-old Paul Kenny and 22-year-old Nigel Maher from Kilmeague died when the jeep they were travelling in went out of control near Allen Cross.

Earlier three people, two men and a woman, died in a two car collision - also

in Co Kildare - on the main Dublin-Mullingar road.

Meanwhile a sixth person, a 17-year-old youth, died when his car was in a collision with a fence at Ballydehob, Co Cork.

This week has seen the death toll from accidents so far this year pass the 200 mark.
