All well with Ahead after dream success

David Simcock reports Dream Ahead to be “very pleased with himself” following his narrow victory in yesterday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The July Cup hero put a disappointing run in France behind him by coming out on top in a thrilling three-way finish on Merseyside, with Bated Breath beaten a nose into second and the unlucky Hoof It just a head further away in third.

Speaking on his website www.davidsimcock.co.uk, the trainer said: “We are just delighted and relieved to have got him back on track after France.

“That’s the most pleasing thing for us as his run in Deauville left us scratching our heads a bit.

“We opted for a change of tactics at Haydock – we were far more aggressive with him.

“With what happened in France, we wanted him to be more competitive earlier. In hindsight it was possibly the wrong thing to do but we got away with it.

“At the finish, it was very hard for anyone to tell who had actually won – you only have to look at the photo to see that.

“He seems fine this morning. He went out for a pick of grass and seems very pleased with himself.

“We’ll consider two options for him – the Prix de la Foret (October 2) in France and the British Champions Series Sprint (Oct 15) at Ascot.”
