One in four SSIA-holders will donate some money to charity when their savings schemes mature, a new poll revealed today.
The survey also found 95% of Irish people would hand over some cash to a needy cause if they won the lottery.
Men are more likely to donate part of their windfalls, with around 30% of male SSIA-holders giving away some funds compared to only 22% of women.
Children’s charities were the most popular choice at 42%, followed by third-world charities at 38% and cancer-research charities at 32%.
More than 340 people were surveyed by the research company AskChilli on behalf of the Little Star Fund charity.
“The generosity of Irish people is well recognised around the world when it comes to charitable giving,” said Conor Byrne of the Little Star Fund charity.
“It is encouraging to see that some people are thinking about giving a little of their windfall to help those less fortunate than themselves.”
