Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 25-year-old man who was shot in the west of the city over the weekend.

The victim was shot in the neck by a lone gunman who called to his house in Blanchardstown in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was taken to nearby Connolly Hospital, where he died of his injuries yesterday evening.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information about the case to come forward.

The gunman is believed to have fled the scene on a motorbike that was found burning in Sheepmore Grove a short time after the shooting.
