Michael Jarvis will leave it as late as possible before declaring Hala Bek a definite runner in the Vodafone Derby.
The once-raced maiden winner created a huge impression at Newbury but his participation in the blue riband has been in doubt since a dirty scope prevented him running in the Dante Stakes at York.
The Halling colt galloped on Friday and is in good heart at the moment but Jarvis says he will have to be in “A1” condition before he is confirmed for the mile and a half showpiece.
“We are leaving it to the line really,” said Jarvis.
“We want to make sure that he is absolutely A1 before we say he is a definite runner.
“He worked well yesterday and he was fine after the work this morning and we’ll carry on until the middle of next week before we confirm either way.
“It’s up to Sheikh Ahmed and myself to all agree that the horse is in perfect condition. If we are not absolutely happy with him we will save him for another day,” he told BBC Sport.
