A 30-year-old Waterford man, who was sexually abused by a Christian Brother, is to begin a civil case against the religious order today.

The man has taken the case against Brother Jack Kelly, who is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence for sexual abuse.

If the case is successful, it could lead to an avalanche of damages claims.

Many victims of sexual abuse fear the Government’s compensation scheme will limit pay-outs and deny victims the right to pursue any further damages through the courts.
