Labour attacks Govt over Dublin toll-bridge congestion

Labour Party Pat Rabbitte has attacked the Government over ongoing congestion on Dublin's West-Link toll bridge.

Labour Party TD Pat Rabbitte has attacked the Government over ongoing congestion on Dublin's West-Link toll bridge.

The Oireachtas public accounts committee heard yesterday that barrier-free tolling on the bridge would probably not be introduced until the upgrade of the M50 is complete in 2010.

Mr Rabbitte has described this as unacceptable and wants the toll barriers removed during the upgrade works.

"People who get up at half past six or seven o'clock in the morning to go to work find this an intolerable pressure," he said.

"They're paying their taxes and paying a toll and yet they can't get over the bridge in reasonable time."
