Some businesses set for water restrictions reprieve

Water restrictions are set to be eased on some businesses for New Years Eve.

Water restrictions are set to be eased on some businesses for New Years Eve.

Thousands of homes throughout the country have been affected by the shortages after the thaw last week.

Dublin City Council, however, is trying to find a way to increase supplies for pubs and restaurants tomorrow night which is a traditionally busy time of the year.

Spokesperson Brian McKeown said today that supply outstripped demand for the first time in recent days yesterday.

"As we start to put water into storage, we can then start to ease some of the restrictions," he said.

"We are mindful that this is a holiday week and that is really one of the reasons why we've taken that step this week because it is not as disruptive on people this week as opposed to next week when the schools go back."
