Champions League: Real would suit Lauren

Arsenal's Lauren targeted holders Real Madrid as his preferred opponents in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Arsenal's Lauren targeted holders Real Madrid as his preferred opponents in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Gunners secured a place in the last eight despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Arsenal will now meet one of three Spanish clubs in the last eight - Real, Valencia or Deportivo la Coruna.

But the Arsenal midfielder declared: "I would prefer Real Madrid.

"The other two Spanish teams are very strong and it's very difficult to score against them.

"But maybe Real Madrid let you play more and you can have more chances. We both like to play football and we'd see a very great quarter-final."

Of last night's defeat Lauren added: "We didn't play like we can play but we're in the next round and we have to be happy about that.

"We are lucky because it's a long time since Arsenal were in the quarter-finals of the European Cup."

The 1971-72 season was the only other time that the Gunners had reached the last eight of Europe's premier club competition, only to be defeated by Ajax over two legs.
