There are growing expectations that the Government will cut tax relief on pension contributions.

The report of the Commission on Taxation is thought to recommend an end to tax relief at the 41% marginal income tax rate.

Michael O Halloran of ICTU's retired workers committee said the current system has proven a bad deal for both the State and those paying into pensions and that it is time for a re-think.
