Pakistan’s interior minister said British death row inmate Mirza Tahir Hussain was released today after 18 years in custody in Pakistan.

“He has been released this morning,” Aftab Khan Sherpao told The Associated Press.

Hussain, who always protested his innocence, was released two days after Pakistan president Gen. Pervez Musharraf commuted the death sentence for the Briton, originally from Leeds, who was convicted in relation to the 1988 killing of a taxi driver.
