Police in west Belfast were today hunting for a distinctive four-door car which they believe was used in an attempt to entice a 12-year-old girl inside.

The black car, which had a neon light underneath it, pulled up along the Shaws Road at 9.15pm, with the male driver shouting at the girl to get inside.

The man was described as having jaw-length hair with a moustache and was wearing sunglasses, a hoop earring in his right ear, a sovereign ring, a blue shirt and a baseball cap with Budweiser written on it.

The girl refused, screamed and fled the scene.

It is believed the car left the area, turning at Rossgoil Park before heading down towards Belfast city centre.

Detectives in New Barnsley police station today appealed for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area at about 9.15pm, or who may have seen the car, to help their investigation.
