A young mother and her son have died in hospital from injuries sustained in a fire at their home in Co Louth over the weekend.

A young mother and her son have died in hospital from injuries sustained in a fire at their home in Co Louth over the weekend.

Twenty-five-year old Marian Moran and her two-year-old son Brandyn had been in intensive care since the blaze in the Farndreg area of Dundalk on Saturday morning.

Gardaí believe the fire was started by a chip pan.

Ms Moran died at Louth County Hospital late last night, while her son died earlier in the evening at Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin.
