Israeli aircraft fired two missiles today at Palestinian security forces in the Khan Younis refugee camp in southern Gaza, killing one man and injuring seven, Palestinian medical officials said.

Witnesses said all the casualties were uniformed and carrying weapons at the time they were hit.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the airstrike.

Scores of Israeli armoured vehicles, including tanks and bulldozers, massed around the camp late today, residents reported.

The army said there was military activity in the area in response to heavy mortar barrages militants have launched in recent days against nearby Jewish settlements.
