Birmingham defender Franck Queudrue will be out of action for a fortnight after suffering a hamstring strain.
The former Middlesbrough player was forced to miss the 1-1 home draw with Derby after sustaining the injury in training on Friday.
It means he is also ruled out of the Barclays Premier League clash with West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.
David Murphy, a £1.5m January transfer window capture from Hibernian, replaced Queudrue at left-back against the Rams.
Blues manager Alex McLeish confirmed: “Queudrue picked up a hamstring strain on Friday and he will probably be out for a couple of weeks.
“I brought David Murphy in against Derby and he did well so that was a plus point from a game we should have won.”
City are without a win in six league games since the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Boxing Day and they also crashed out of the FA Cup to Huddersfield.
McLeish has faith in his squad but knows the inexperienced players will have to learn to cope quickly with the pressures of a relegation battle.
He said: “We are not getting what we deserve. That is an absolute fact, certainly in the last two games at St. Andrews, and maybe Lady Luck will smile on us a bit more kindly in the coming weeks.
“There are a lot of young guys and this is a new experience for them but it is all part of their football education, and it is all part of the strength of their mentality.
“They’ve got a battle ahead. First and foremost, they have to have a certain amount of character within themselves but we can help them.
“There is no doubt about that and we can let them see their performances the day after the game and see how well they have done and that should be something that reinforces it.
“But if they’ve got the character, and I think there are a few in there I can trust, that can enhance their mentality.”
