Killorglin murder trial: Gardaí given two more weeks

A 26-year-old man has today made his seventh court appearance over the double killing of a Lithuanian mother and daughter.

Aurimas Andruska of Ardmoniel Heights in Killorglin is charged with the murders of Jolanta Lubiene and her daughter, Enrika.

Andrushka appeared via video link at Cork District Court again today to hear gardaí apply for a further adjournment in the case.

He is charged with killing Jolanta Lubiene and her daughter Enrika, at their home in Langford Downs, Killorglin on June 15.

The Ccourt heard that gardaí were still conducting a number of lines of inquiry, including some at an international level, and to date they had taken 380 statements.

Insp Pat Meaney said gardaí required further time to finalise the book of evidence and he was hopeful that it would be ready within a month.

However, Andruska's solicitor, Michael O'Donnell, said gardaí had said more or less the same thing at his client's last appearance in court and Mr Andruska was not consenting to a month's adjournment.

Judge Leo Malone said in those circumstances the most that he could remand Andruska for was two weeks, and he remains in custody to appear in court by video link again, on Oct 9.
