50 civilians killed near Basra, Trócaire reports

A spokeswoman for Trócaire has said that 50 Iraqi civilians were killed and 75 more injured in yesterday's attack on Basra.

A spokeswoman for Trócaire has said that 50 Iraqi civilians were killed and 75 more injured in yesterday's attack on Basra.

Trócaire is funding medical supplies and equipment to cater for a potential 10,000 war-injured people throughout Iraq.

The organisation's communications officer Caroline Lynch, speaking from Jordan, said some of these supplies were used following a US / UK attack on an area 20 miles outside Basra yesterday.

Ms Lynch said that 50 Iraqi civilians were killed and 75 injured in the attack.

Trócaire is coordinating the aid mission with a group called Caritas, a Christian charity aid group which has worked in Iraq for several years.
