Tony Considine has been confirmed as Clare's new senior hurling manager.
The Cratloe man was selected as the Banner boss as a meeting of the Clare County Board at the West County Hotel in Ennis last night. He will take on a two-year term.
At the meeting, Clare chairman Michael McDonagh put forward the proposal of Considine taking over and a a majority vote of 37 to 6 saw him officially appointed.
He replaces former captain Anthony Daly after he stepped down in the aftermath of Clare's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Kilkenny in August.
Considine was a key member of Ger Loughnane's backroom staff during the Banner's glory years in the 1990s. He was a selector, alongside Mike McNamara, for the All-Ireland wins in 1995 and 1997.
Most recently he has written on hurling for the Irish Examiner and used his punditry skills to good effect on Setanta Sports.
His last dip into hurling management saw him guide Garryspillane to victory in last year's Limerick county championship final - it was the Bouncers' first county title in their history.
"I was delighted to be approached (for the Clare job)," Considine told the Irish Examiner.
"I got a call from the chairman of the County Board and the secretary. They put it to me that they wanted me to take over. You don’t think twice about being offered the chance to be in charge of your own county."
Considine will spend the next few weeks putting his backroom team together before unveiling them at next month's meeting of the Clare County Board.
